Bigbury on Sea and Burgh Island
Bigbury on Sea, in the centre of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to Dartmoor, is a beautiful coastal village famous for its expanse of beautiful sandy beach with a causeway, flooded at high tide, leading to Burgh Island and its internationally famous Art Deco hotel. The extensive beaches of Bigbury on Sea and Bantham are ideal for children with three RNLI lifeguard stations.
The hotel, a few minutes walk from the house, was a former haunt of Edward and Mrs Simpson, Churchill and Agatha Christie and was recently voted the Most Romantic Hotel in Britain. It is open to non-residents for dinner (black tie) and Sunday lunch and is a wonderful location for that special celebration meal. The Pilchard Inn, a 700 year old smuggling inn, also on the island, serves local beers and food at lunchtime and Friday evenings.
At high tide access to the island is via a unique long legged ‘sea tractor’ running at half hourly intervals.
The village also has two beach restaurants, a General store and the excellent Discovery Surf and watersport school.
If the weather is poor, there is a pub/restaurant ten minutes walk away in Challaborough which has pool tables, darts, live Sports TV, arcade games, pub quizzes and more.

Reviews (TripAdvisor 16/4/2013)
“ This is a really lovely house in a great location, suitable for family or friend groups, though couples would also feel cosy here. Big open plan spaces and more than enough bathrooms to go round. Its very clean, has all the kitchen gadgets that you would need and a great entertainment unit for big screen afficionados. Views are breathtaking (whatever the weather is like) from house and garden. Plenty in the surrounding area to do (walk the coast path, kayak, surf, visit pubs or amble around some of the pretty local towns). The owners are very friendly and helpful - we had a wonderful time here and would absolutely recommend the property.” H. Family London
